Building Everyday Acceptance At The Movie Theater
Do’s
Do assume there is a good reason…sensory overload and not misbehavior
If your child is curious or confused, do help them by explaining “some people experience the world differently”
Do accept that inclusion is not about tolerance it’s about understanding
Don’ts
Don’t escalate by hushing them harshley or demanding they sit down.
Don’t complain immediately to staff
Don’t assume caregiver isn’t trying. They might be trying to balance safety, sensory needs and emotional regulation.
You’ve sat down to enjoy a new movie at your local theater and before the movie even starts you see a young boy three aisles down covering his ears and pacing up and down the aisle…
