Creativity With Purpose: How Interest-Driven Learning Builds Real-Life Skills - Shorter Version
At The Rising Start Foundation, creativity is more than enrichment—it is a pathway to confidence, communication, and real-world readiness. Through music, design, candle-making, and entrepreneurship, our students and young adults build practical life and workforce skills by learning through their interests and strengths. Research increasingly supports what we see every day at TRS: when creativity is nurtured with purpose, it can help neurodivergent learners grow in engagement, self-expression, and lifelong capability.

An Alternative Path For Our Neurodivergent Youth And Young Adults
What if we were to construct an alternative, brighter future for our Neurodivergent youth and young adults…what might that look like? A future where very early on in their life journey they start preparing for a future of creativity, innovation and value creation rather than a future pre-determined by existing models of workforce readiness and perceptions of work capabilities.
Meet Our TRS Music Band
The science demonstrates it, and more importantly we witness it everyday at The Rising Start. The TRS Music Program has added an entirely different dimension to The Rising Start's curriculum and to our student experience, they are learning and making music, having fun, engaging with each other and changing in ways often below the surface but plainly evident song, after song, after song.
Why Music Matters
Music is a critically important element in helping our autistic and neurodiverse children and young adults promote cognitive, social and emotional well being, helping them adapt to, and engage more effectively with each other and the community around them. Music lets us present ourselves in ways that may be hard for us to do in verbal form and lets others discover something about us they may never have truly understood before.
